چکیده

This paper presents a system which demonstrates a biologically motivated approach to artificial vision. As a typical application 2-D shape recognition is chosen. Traditionally recognition problem is divided into two phases: sophisticated preprocessing of the whole image so that regions with similar features can be grouped together and then the recovery of shape parameters of each region using one among the plethora of existing methods. In contrast an approach based on selective attention makes use of simple methods to guide visual processors to the interesting regions of the image. Previous work on selective attention has focused on pre-attentive and attentive stages while almost no work has been done on the final stage cognition. This paper presents the beginnings of how to complete the pre-attention, attention, cognition sequel of selective attention. An approach to shape recognition based on probabilistic models of attentional sequences is described and the capabilities of the system are investigated. Experiments performed on rotated shapes demonstrate the performance of the algorithm.

Using Probabilistic-Risky Programming Models in Identifying Optimized Pattern of Cultivation under Risk Conditions (Case Study: Shoshtar Region)

Using Telser and Kataoka models of probabilistic-risky mathematical programming, the present research is to determine the optimized pattern of cultivating the agricultural products of Shoshtar region under risky conditions. In order to consider the risk in the mentioned models, time period of agricultural years 1996-1997 till 2004-2005 was taken into account. Results from Telser and Kataoka mod...

Probabilistic Contaminant Source Identification in Water Distribution Infrastructure Systems

Large water distribution systems can be highly vulnerable to penetration of contaminant factors caused by different means including deliberate contamination injections. As contaminants quickly spread into a water distribution network, rapid characterization of the pollution source has a high measure of importance for early warning assessment and disaster management. In this paper, a methodology...

Attentional selection of overlapped shapes: a study using brief shape aftereffects

Prior studies using brief stimulus sequences revealed "opponent shape aftereffects", indicative of direct opponent coding of global shape attributes such as aspect ratio, skew, taper, curvature, and convexity (perhaps in IT). Further, aftereffects from overlapped opponent pairs of adaptor shapes (e.g., concave and convex shapes) were substantially modulated by attention [Vision Res. 41 (2001) 3...

Modeling gene regulatory networks: Classical models, optimal perturbation for identification of network

Deep understanding of molecular biology has allowed emergence of new technologies like DNA decryption.  On the other hand, advancements of molecular biology have made manipulation of genetic systems simpler than ever; this promises extraordinary progress in biological, medical and biotechnological applications.  This is not an unrealistic goal since genes which are regulated by gene regulatory ...

Probabilistic Evaluation on the Free Vibration of Functionally Graded Material Plates Using 3D Solution and Meta-Model Methods

This paper presents a probabilistic assessment on the free vibration analysis of functionally graded material plates, including layers with magneto-electro-elastic properties, using the 3D solution and surrogate models. The plate is located on an elastic foundation and the intra-layer slipping effect is also considered in the analysis by employing the generalized intra-layer spring model. Due t...
